You are correct! Wine Quiz Answer: C. It is impossible to grow Bordeaux in the US.
While we have come to know Bordeaux as a wine, that is not exactly correct. Bordeaux is, first and foremost, a city in France. The vast region wine growing region around the city is also identified as Bordeaux. This highlights a very big difference between how US wineries typically name their wines (by the name of the grapes used) and how most of Europe names their wines (by the name of the town or region it is grown). A red wine from Bordeaux will often be a blend with either Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot as the principle grape. Growing Bordeaux in the US would be like trying to grow Oregon in Spain. Interesting concept, but impossible.
